How to pitch brands as a creator (without sounding like everyone else's DM)

July 15, 2026·3 min read

Most brand pitches from creators follow the same shape: lead with follower count, add a generic compliment about the brand, end with "let me know if you're interested." Brand teams receive dozens of these a week and skim past nearly all of them, because none of them give a specific reason to say yes over the next nearly-identical pitch in the inbox.

What actually gets a reply

A pitch that gets read leads with fit — a specific, concrete reason your audience overlaps with theirs, backed by a real number or trend from your own data, not a vague "I love your brand" that could be copy-pasted to any company in the category.

A structure that works

Line 1: The specific fit, stated plainly. Not "I love your products" — something like "my audience is 70% women 25-34 interested in home organization, which lines up closely with what I can see of your customer base."

Line 2: A number that backs it up. Engagement rate, a relevant post's performance, or audience demographic data. One concrete number does more work than three sentences of enthusiasm.

Line 3: A specific content idea, not an open-ended offer. "Let's collaborate" makes the brand do the work of imagining what that means. "I'd want to do a home-organization walkthrough featuring your storage bins, in the same format as my top-performing organization content" gives them something concrete to say yes to.

Line 4: A clear, low-friction next step. A call, a rate sheet, a media kit link — something specific, not just "let me know."

Before vs. after

Weak versionStronger version
"I love your brand and think we'd be a great fit!""My audience is 70% women 25-34 interested in home organization — closely matching your customer base based on your recent campaigns."
"I have 15k engaged followers""My last 5 organization-focused posts averaged 4.2% engagement, well above my account's overall average."
"Let's collaborate!""I'd want to do a home-organization walkthrough featuring your storage bins, similar in format to my top-performing content in this category."
"Let me know if you're interested""Happy to hop on a quick call this week, or send over my rate sheet if that's easier."

Why specificity beats enthusiasm every time

Brands aren't short on creators expressing interest — they're short on creators who've clearly done the homework and can articulate exactly why the partnership makes sense for both sides. Specificity signals professionalism and reduces the brand's own effort to evaluate the pitch, which directly increases response rates.

Where the numbers in your pitch actually come from

The engagement rate, audience demographic breakdown, and top-performing content examples that make a pitch land require actually knowing your own numbers well enough to cite them confidently and specifically, not from memory or a rough guess. mayy.ai can help you pull that context together quickly — the real numbers that make your case — so you're not writing a pitch based on vague impressions of your own account's performance.

You don't need a bigger following to get a reply. You need a sharper, more specific reason for that particular brand to care.
